One of the closest associates of Božo Petrov resigns as special advisor in government and returns to the party.
Ivica Relković, a special adviser to Deputy Prime Minister Božo Petrov and one of the most influential people in MOST, has resigned from his post in government, report Večernji List, Index.hr and n1info.com on May 15, 2016.
While mostly remaining out of the public limelight, Relković was one of the most important people for MOST’s success at the last parliamentary elections.
His resignation is interpreted by many as a sign that new parliamentary elections could be close and that Relković has decided to devote his time to preparations for a new electoral campaign. It is clear that relations between MOST and HDZ are far from idyllic, After Parliament has not managed to muster a quorum needed for voting for the third straight week, rumours about new elections are getting louder.
Also, Ivan Kovačić recently resigned as president of MOST Parliamentary Group. He reacted to the re-election of Ivan Škaričić as the head of the local HDZ branch in Omiš, where Kovačić is the mayor. At the time, Kovačić said that his cooperation with HDZ had become almost impossible, not only at the local, but also at the national level.
Relković gave an interview on Sunday to Večernji List. “MOST will not stay in any government with anyone just for the sake of self-delusion that things will get fixed tomorrow, if tomorrow turn out to be ‘never’. Kovačić's move, and now my decision to leave the position of special advisor in the government, mean that the line for us is very, very close”, said Relković.
Večernji List writes that Relković is a man who has played a key role in MOST’s electoral successes, and that his task will be to do it once again.
