Zagreb Mayor to Donate a Shovel to Each Family?

By 14 November 2016

Milan Bandić also presented some of his promises ahead of mayoral elections next year.

Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić commented on Monday on the readiness level of city services ahead of the snow ploughing season. He modestly described them as “the best in Europe”, and added that he was personally ready for mayoral elections which will be held in May next year, reports N1 on November 14, 2016.

Commenting on the readiness of snow ploughing services, Bandić said that they must be prepared to clear snow up to a metre in height, regardless of how much snow there actually is during the winter. “We have the best services in Europe, in technical, organizational and human resource sense”, said Bandić, adding that there are 15 bases with 259 teams ready to clear the snow from the streets. “Without any false modesty, we have the cleanest roads when snow falls”, said the Mayor, adding that he was proud the citizens had made him responsible for public needs management, assuring them that the streets would be clean as soon as first snowflakes start falling.

“I am ready with my shovel in front of my home, and I would give the same advice to all households, so that everyone could be responsible for clearing the snow in front of their houses and apartment buildings”, said the Mayor, adding that he hopes the city services would listen to him and implement his idea that each family in Zagreb receives a shovel, so they can clear the snow in front of their residences.

Bandić also spoke about his election manifesto for local election in May next year. He said that he had already presented his manifesto 17 times during the same number of years since he was first elected as Mayor. “As for the other candidates in the upcoming elections, I wish them all the success”, said Bandić, adding that he expected a good campaign, in which the best will win. “I do not think there will be more opponents than last time. Everything will be similar like four years ago”, added Bandić. “Construction of the new cable car line, high-speed connection with the airport, and connecting all homes with the city waterworks, internet into every home... these are some of the projects that I will present in the next month.”

Commenting on the situation within SDP, the party of which he was a member, Bandić said that he wished them all the best. “I wish that even to the person whom SDP will propose as my opponent. I wish him or her success, no matter who it is”, said Bandić. He explained what he meant when he said that SDP's candidates were his “political children”. “I have made them members of the party, I taught them how to walk the street of Zagreb. I would like them to demonstrate what I have taught them. They advocate social democracy, but I am successfully implementing it”, concluded Bandić.
