Junior partner in the ruling coalition held a party conference.

Božo Petrov has been re-elected as MOST president, while MPs Miroslav Šimić and Robert Podolnjak were elected se party vice-presidents. MP Nikola Grmoja is the new political secretary. The decisions were made at a party conference held on Saturday in Zagreb, reports Večernji List on January 29, 2017.

Božo Petrov, who is currently Speaker of Parliament, received 289 votes, while his rival Robert Postaj received 34 votes. “We are here just temporarily, but the idea and the desire to make Croatia a better country is what will remain behind us. I will fight for all the principles with which MOST entered into a fight against corruption, crime and neglect that we have been witnessing for the last 20 years”, said Petrov in his first speech after the election.

According to Petrov, MOST has enabled Croatia to be able to choose and not to be forced to continue with the old policies. “I promise that we will be democratic, reasonable and uncompromising, and that we will put the public interest before the private one”, he added and thanked party members for their support. “After three years, we have remained normal human beings”, said Petrov, adding that “every wrinkle and all the hours spent were worth it”.

“This is our time, tomorrow there will be other people, but we will give our best to give to new generations which will come after us a more beautiful Croatia, and that is a goal that is worth the effort”, said Petrov.

At the end of the party conference, which was the first such event for the party which is a junior partner in the ruling coalition, MP Miro Bulj called on independent candidates to join MOST for the local elections in May. “I am honoured that I have spent the last year with these people and participated with you in a moment in history when a bold political option appeared at the Croatian political scene, fighting against corruption and crime and for the protection of national interests”, said Bulj. He added that independent candidates should run as part of the MOST platform in order to take part in changing Croatia “until the victory at the upcoming local elections”.

At the party conference, the delegates also elected members of the Main Committee and the Party Supervisory Board.
