Latest poll shows that the main opposition party is becoming less and less popular.
Nova TV has announced results of its latest monthly political poll. The survey was conducted by Ipsos agency between 1 and 18 February on 973 adult citizens, reports dnevnik.hr on February 25, 2017.
February was the month in which Prime Minister Plenković successfully defended his Education Minister Barišić in Parliament from accusations about plagiarism, SDP was hit by the arrest of former Prime Minister Zoran Milanović’s chief of staff, while President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović marked two years in office.
HDZ currently has the support of 35.1 percent of voters and has been growing for the third month in a row. This is the second best result for HDZ in many years. On the other hand, SDP’s popularity is continuing to decline for the fifth month in a row. They currently have the support of 21.9 percent of voters. This is also one of the poorest results for the party since May 2015. It is becoming obvious that the election of Davor Bernardić as party president did not stop its decline.
Živi Zid is currently the third most popular party, with 9 percent of vote, and is followed by MOST which is supported by 8.6 percent. The four major parties are followed by HSS (3.1 percent), Bandić Milan 365 Party (3 percent), HSU (3 percent), IDS (2.2 percent), Pametno (2.1 percent), and HNS (1.7 percent).
The majority of respondents (53 percent) think that Croatia is going in the wrong direction. However, that number has declined in recent months, while the number of optimists who believe that Croatia is on the right track is growing. In February, the share of optimists reached 36 percent.
About 45 percent of respondents support the government’s activities, while 42 percent do not. As expected, 78 percent of HDZ voters support the government, while MOST’s voters are divided, with just 49 percent supporting the government. The vast majority of citizens believe that Plenković’s government will survive until the end of term. Such opinion is shared by 77 percent of respondents, while only 16 percent think that the government will collapse.
The majority of citizens (51 percent) supports the work of President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović after two years of her term, while 41 percent do not support her. For comparison, her predecessor Ivo Josipović, after two years of his term, had the support of 80 percent of voters.
President is viewed positively by 60 percent of voters, while 34 percent have a negative impression about her. As for Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, 56 percent of voters have a positive impression and 35 percent negative. Leader of the opposition, SDP president Davor Bernardić is viewed positively by just 36 percent of voters, while 43 percent have a negative opinion about him, which might explain SDP’s low popularity.
