The smoke reached half way across the Adriatic Sea.
The major fires that hit Croatia and Montenegro yesterday have caused smoke which is clearly visible even from the universe. NASA's satellite Aqua has taken a photo of the terrifying scene showing a horrendous scale of fires on the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea.
The picture shows three great areas of smoke and ash moving south-west, towards the coast of Italy. Red lines mark active fires.
The photograph was taken yesterday as fires burned near Benkovac and Vransko Lake, which is the upper area of smoke, while the middle area is the fires around Split.
The lowest fires are those which hit Montenegro, not far from the natural reserve of Solila in the Tivat Bay.
