The finance minister comments on the arrests of his former Agrokor colleagues, wishing them well in their ordeal.
Since the very beginning of the increasingly strained Agrokor case, accusations have always managed to find their way to the finance minister's door.
Seeing as the otherwise unassuming looking Zdravko Marić used to work for Croatia's now ailing largest privately owned company before taking up his governmental position, suspicions have flown around regarding just how much he really knew about the now obviously more than dire situation Agrokor finds itself entrenched in.
As Poslovni Dnevnik reports on the 18th of October, 2017, before the government session today, the finance minister dismissed all suspicions on account of the fact that he maybe knew about the problems facing Agrokor, once again.
"From the very first day, I've been very much aware of my responsibilities and my role as the minister of finance. We've already had a vote of confidence in Parliament, and then I argued honourably and I dignitously defended myself and my function as the minister. The allegations [that I faced] were unfounded. I say that I should be judged on my results, and not what I did somewhere [else], I've explained by role in Agrokor many times,'' Marić stated.
N1 writes that as far as the rest of Agrokor's board members are concerned, Marić was in no mood to comment on it.
"I wouldn't comment on the processes, I've worked with these people and I know them, and I also know that from my [own] example, that this isn't easy, and I hope they'll have the power to deal with it all,'' he noted briefly.
Was there something suspicious going on in Agrokor while he was working there? Zdravko Marić once again dismissed any notion of there being any truth in accusations of him having known more than he claims to have known.
"My role in Agrokor was different, I didn't compile financial reports, nor did I participate in their revision. Whatever happens, I'm ready to answer all the questions because I don't have the right, nor do I have the intention of hiding anything," concluded the finance minister N1.
