The seven Syrian families have already passed a cultural orientation course and will immediately start the process of integration into the Croatian society.
Forty Syrian refugees from Turkey have arrived in Croatia to resettle here permanently. Their arrival is part of the European programme for the transfer and resettlement of third-country nationals and stateless persons who are eligible for international protection, reports Večernji List on November 29, 2017.
The refugees are members of seven Syrian families who have already gone through a cultural orientation course and will immediately start the process of integration into the Croatian society, announced the Interior Ministry on Wednesday. These families have voluntarily chosen Croatia as a country in which they want to live and where they see the future for their children. The refugees will be accommodated at the Asylum Seekers' Reception Centre in Kutina for the first four to six weeks, after which they will be provided with more permanent individual accommodation.
The Interior Ministry’s partner in the resettlement project is the Croatian office of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), whose staff will teach refugees the Croatian language and inform them about access to state and public institutions and organisations, as well as the rights and obligations regarding education, employment, health and housing. They will also get to know the customs and the way of life and work in Croatia.
Croatia has committed to accepting 150 third-country nationals or stateless persons by the end of 2017, in accordance with the government's decision on the transfer and resettlement of third-country nationals and stateless persons eligible for international protection which was approved in 2015.
Through the controlled migration management, which includes the resettlement programme, Croatia and other EU member states have established a safeguard mechanism whose primary objective is to protect human lives and to avoid unwanted situations that occur during attempts of migrants to pass across the Mediterranean Sea, the Interior Ministry said.
