ZAGREB, February 7, 2018 - A real estate tax will not be introduced and I am convinced that because the value of properties has to be ascertained first, introducing that tax will not be possible in this government's term, Minister of Construction and Physical Planning Predrag Štromar said on Wednesday. He is also a high-ranking official of HNS, a junior coalition partner in the government.
Refuting media headlines that the real estate tax would in fact be introduced via amendments to the municipal services law, Štromar said that he had not once mentioned that tax nor is it possible to introduce it just like that because it is first necessary to resolve the problem of determining the value of properties.
That can't be put forward by the construction ministry, but only by the finance ministry together with the prime minister, and that won't be possible in the next three years, that is, during the term of this government, Štromar told a press conference.
Asked what the amendments to the municipal services law would bring, Štromar said that the law was being aligned with EU directives and that local rates would remain the same as in the previous law.
