SDP Leader Davor Bernardić Visits Dubrovnik, Split and Šibenik

By 25 February 2018

''We're a party of progressive people who believe in a better Croatia'' stated the young SDP leader.

As ŠibenikIn writes on the 25th of February, 2018, SDP President Davor Bernardić visited the Dalmatian coastal cities of Dubrovnik, Split and Šibenik where he discussed SDP's new ''For a Good Society'' (Za Dobro Društvo) with party members from Dalmatia.

During his visit to Dubrovnik, Bernardić recalled the fact that SDP was the first and only party in Croatia to offer a concrete plan to stop the emigration of young people, as well as to allow tem to find work and accommodation more easily, which is particularly important for Dubrovnik where there are many seasonal workers and property prices are traditionally more expensive than they are in the rest of the country.

The SDP president denied media coverage of a new SDP-MOST coalition, saying that he ''hadn't heard'', and in sunny Dalmatia he repeated his position that the government headed by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković has to go because ''they've protected, and continue to protect'', the crimes that have been taking place within Agrokor.

''For the last three months in SDP, we've been repeating that the legal plunder in Agrokor was made possible by HDZ, Plenković, Dalić and the rest of that group. Our position is clear: So far, 150 million euro has been ejected from Agrokor, and jobs are compromised, so the prime minister has to leave. The revocation of the government is necessary, just as with Martina Dalić, and that's clear to everyone today,'' Bernardić stated.

He praised the work of young Jadran Barac, who has recently been made head of SDP Dubrovnik, and said he is "convinced that he'll take responsibility for running the city at the next local elections."

Bernardić spoke about how the SDP of today is ''committed to the market, the social and ecological economy,'' and that they are ''also open to new forms of business, such as the sharing economy and the circular economy, all in order to awaken the outdated model of economic development in our country,''

He added that the new future party program, written after 22 years, brings forward a new paradigm for SDP, but is also the basis of the party's future program for Croatia.

Every day, we fight for equality. Parties that change their direction as the wind blows and how the media write lose their identity. That won't happen to SDP. We're still standing firmly on the bumper of personal freedom, and protecting the weaker LGBT community. The only way to make this country change is to get started, and not to fall into cynicism and apathy. I want to restore faith in politics and change the attitude that all politicians are the same. SDP has the knowledge, the energy and the will to change Croatia,'' he stated, concluding with the statement that he was proud that today's SDP is a party of progressive people.
