By 23 March 2018

ZAGREB, March 23, 2018 - Croatia strongly condemns terrorism and is resolute in the fight against the insane violence which encroaches on the foundations of modern democratic society, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said on Friday in a letter of condolence to his French counterpart Edouard Philippe after a terror attack in Trebes, France.

"With deep regret I have received news of the hostage crisis in the town of Trebes in which, unfortunately, there have been fatalities," Plenković said. "The Republic of Croatia strongly condemns terrorism and is resolute in the fight against the insane violence which encroaches on the foundations of modern democratic society."

He extended condolences to Philippe, the victims' families and all citizens affected by the tragic act.

Three people were killed in southwestern France today in a series of attacks in which the attacker hijacked a vehicle, killing one person in Carcassonne and taking hostages in a supermarket in Trebes while shouting "Allahu Akbar". The terrorist organisation Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack.
