ZAGREB, April 7, 2018 - A peaceful rally of solidarity with Syrian citizens, who have been living the horrors of war for seven years, was held in downtown Zagreb on Friday evening.
Around one hundred people rallied in the Zrinjevac park to write down messages of peace on pieces of cloth, calling for putting an end to the senseless war and lighting candles.
Talal, a Syrian student from Zagreb, said that the war in Syria continued to destroy cities and people, leaving children without parents and schools, without their families and the future.
According to official information, more than half a million people have been killed in the war in Syria, five million have left the country and more than six million have been internally displaced, said the student, who has been living in Zagreb for four years and whose parents have stayed in Damascus.
Many countries profit from this war - Russia, Turkey, America and other countries, as well as NATO, while innocent civilians across Syria continue to suffer, said Talal, adding that there were around 50 Syrian asylum seekers in Zagreb.
