ZAGREB, May 26, 2018 - Croatian Defence Minister Damir Krstičević on Saturday offered his best wishes to members of the Croatian Army on the occasion of Armed Forces Day, May 28, stressing that he was proud that the army's traditions were continuing and that he was confident of its bright future.
A ceremony was held in downtown Zagreb commemorating the 27th anniversary of the establishment of the Armed Forces and Croatian Army Day.
A demonstration exercise and a ceremony of the changing of the guard were held outside the government and parliament offices in St. Mark's Square, with the Armed Forces' Supreme Commander, President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, Armed Forces Chief-of-Staff Mirko Šundov, senior active and retired army officers and citizens and tourists in attendance.
Addressing those in attendance at that event, Krstičević said that the Croatian Army had made significant progress in the past 20 years, that it was being constantly modernised and was improving its members' living standards. He also recalled that the defence budget had been increased and that multi-purpose fighter jets had been purchased recently.
Asked if he expected the session of the National Security Council scheduled for Monday to discuss also reports by secret services regarding the Hotmail Affair, which concerns private e-mail correspondence between former economy minister Martina Dalić and consultants who had worked on the drafting of the law on emergency administration in systemic companies (Lex Agrokor), Krstičević said that the meeting would discuss all topics of national interest.
Also today, President Grabar-Kitarović's office hosted an open-door event dedicated to rescue services.
