The activist was protesting the recent death of a young man in Zaprešić.
The “Free Croatia” party announced that yesterday evening the police detained the party co-chairman after he threw eggs at the building housing the Ministry of Health earlier in the day. The Operational and Communication Centre of the Zagreb Police Administration reported that a criminal investigation was being led “about an event which took place in front of the ministry headquarters at the Ksaver neighbourhood in Zagreb” and that the public would be promptly informed about the details, reports Index.hr on August 15, 2018.
In protest against the death of a young man in Zaprešić, for which many blame the health care system and are calling on the health minister to resign, Ivan Pokupec decided to throw eggs at the entrance of the Ministry of Health. He told journalists that he was a citizen and a victim of the Croatian health system, “who each month gives 15 percent of his salary so that these things would not happen.” He said that the aim of the protest was “to make people aware that they should not be afraid, that such things should not happen and that it is the right time for the responsible people to start taking their share of responsibility.”
“We inform the public that, after today's action in front of the building of the Ministry of Health, expressing the dissatisfaction with the manner in which Health Minister Milan Kujundžić is implementing health policies, the police in Jastrebarsko took away Kristijan Rogin. We do not know whether he was brought for an interrogation or detention,” said Slobodna Hrvatska.
On Sunday, 22-year-old Matteo Ružić fell ill on a street in Zaprešić near Zagreb. He was initially attended by an emergency medicine team without a physician since the team which had a physician was at the time in Jastrebarsko helping another person. The team with a physician arrived 27 minutes after the initial call, but the young man had died in the meantime.
