By 21 September 2018

ZAGREB, September 21, 2018 - The sixth meeting of the Council for Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem, convened in Beli Manastir on Friday, was presided by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković who underlined that, of the 19 billion kuna which is foreseen to be secured as part of the Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem project, so far 7.9 billion kuna has been contracted, which is about 42% of the funds foreseen.

"I am particularly pleased that since the last council meeting in Vinkovci two months ago, we have progressed by about 5.6% and contracted projects valued at 1.1 billion kuna, which means that all relevant stakeholders are working on this project and when the entire cycle is completed, we will be able to look back and see the impacts of our policy for Slavonia's development," Plenković said opening the meeting.

Plenković in particularly highlighted the international Vc transport corridor as an important project with strategic priority for Baranja which will be conducive to better connectivity with Hungary.

With the works to the corridor continuing in Bosnia and Herzegovina and its completion, our motorway network "will gain a new dimension with regard to tourism development and better transport connectivity between all of central Europe with the Adriatic," he said.

That will bring great economic benefits for us all, particularly for Baranja and its development priorities, Plenković added.

He said he was glad to welcome European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Cretu at today's meeting, saying that her presence shows that "that not have we recognised the significance of developing Slavonia's five counties but also that the European Commission too is aware of our priorities."

Upon arriving in Beli Manastir, the prime minister met with the town Mayor Tomislav Rob and Osijek-Baranja County Prefect Ivan Anušić.
