First Deputy Prime Minister has a stern warning for the Prime Minister.
After Croatian media started speculating that Croatia, due to the decision by Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković to nominate Daniel Markić as the new director of the Security Intelligence Agency, could soon face early parliamentary elections, First Deputy Prime Minister and HDZ president Tomislav Karamarko commented on the issue for the first time since Friday, when the nomination was officially announced, reports Index.hr on March 29, 2016.
Karamarko made his comment in a post published on Tuesday afternoon on Facebook.
"My position about appointments in the security and intelligence system is well known. It was my wish that the proposal for the new director of the Security Intelligence Agency should be agreed at the level of the whole government, which has not happened since the Prime Minister decided to nominate his own candidate.
The proposed candidate is not my choice, but I have never questioned nor will I ever question the formal right of the Prime Minister to appoint his own candidate.
The nominations in the security and intelligence system are another issue in which we had to wait for too long for decision to be made. Now, when that issue has finally been settled, I expect that the Prime Minister will focus on those key issues due to which he has received the confidence of HDZ, which are primarily the economy and investments.
When it comes to the issue of my confidence in Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković, he still has the support of HDZ as the largest party in Parliament. Once he stops having that support, he will no longer be the Prime Minister", wrote Karamarko on his Facebook profile.
Karamarko's post makes it clear that rumours about possible changes in the ruling coalition composition or the possibility of early parliamentary elections being called in the autumn could very easily turn into reality.
