ZAGREB, October 12, 2018 - The Ministry of Justice, acting as part of the Croatian chairmanship of the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers and in cooperation with the Council of Europe's Group of States against Corruption (GRECO), is organising an international ministerial conference in the central Adriatic city of Šibenik on October 15-16.

The purpose of the conference, called "Strengthening Transparency and Accountability to Ensure Integrity: United against Corruption", is to promote national anti-corruption mechanisms and public transparency, the ministry said in a press release on Thursday.

The other topics to be discussed are the role of free media in promoting transparency and integrity in the fight against corruption, the ethical responsibilities of journalists, and risks facing countries affected by corruption.

The conference will be attended by more than 200 experts from 49 countries, including 10 justice ministers and several public prosecutors.

Opening remarks will be delivered by Croatian Minister of Justice Dražen Bošnjaković, Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland, and GRECO President and Vice-President of the Croatian Supreme Court Marin Mrčela.

On the second day of the conference, a declaration launching an international network of national corruption prevention authorities will be open for signature. Under the auspices of Croatian, French and Italian anti-corruption authorities, the network will promote the systematic collection, management and exchange of information and good practices between national authorities in charge of corruption prevention.
