ZAGREB, October 19, 2018 - Croatia's chief state prosecutor Dražen Jelenić and his Russian counterpart, Yuri Y. Chaika, met on Thursday in Zagreb for talks on strengthening the struggle against crime and reinforcing the protection of human rights and freedoms, the Office of the Croatian Chief State Prosecutor (DORH) said in a press release on Friday.

The meeting took place within the Cooperation Programme for the 2017-2019 period, in accordance with the memorandum of cooperation signed by the prosecutorial authorities of the two countries with the aim of developing bilateral cooperation, DORH stated on its web site.

The officials exchanged experiences in the use of information technology in the work of the prosecutorial authorities.

Also on Thursday, President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic met with Russia's Prosecutor General Chaika.

Grabar-Kitarović underscored that within the framework of bilateral relations with Russia, Croatia "is endeavouring to build friendly relations as well as stimulate the development of dialogue between institutions," a press release from the president's office said and added that she expressed satisfaction with the existence of numerous themes for talks between the prosecutorial authorities in the two countries.

Chaika informed Grabar-Kitarović of the "very good experiences in cooperation between Croatia's State Prosecutor's Office and the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation that are founded on the Cooperation Programme signed in 2012, which was extended in 2017 in Sochi during the president's visit to the Russian Federation," the press release said.
