Margetić had been on a hunger strike for 44 days over threats and attacks against him.

According to data from the Croatian Journalists Association (HND), which was forwarded to the police, the Ministry of the Interior, the Justice Ministry and the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor, over the past few years Margetić reported a number of death threats, attacks on his property and two physical assaults, one of which the prosecutors treat as an attempted murder.
