The German police reported on Tuesday morning that raids were performed at various locations in Germany, Lithuania and Croatia, all in connection with the closure of a website which was used as an explosives exchange, as well as for other materials needed for bombs, information and drugs.
The German prosecutors and the police reported about the case to their journalists, saying that the illegal virtual markets where guns, explosives or drugs are sold and bought, just like the one against which the steps were taken today are extremely dangerous.
Boris Pistorius, the Minister of the Interior of the Lower Saxony region reported that the raid started at 04:30 in the morning at 34 locations in Germany, Lithuania and Croatia, Večernji list reports.
Before the actual raids, a server that hosted the domain xplosives.net was seized. The server held numerous instructions on how to build bombs and how to mix explosives. There were around 3,000 members on the forum, which was a part of the site, and around 360 of those actively participated in the information exchange.
State Attorney Ingo Rau commended the international cooperation which lead to the closure of the internet platform. He added that this case showed how much the German authorities depend on their international partners when it comes to cases like cyber crimes in particular.
Hina asked the police in Goettingen if they could disclose any additional information about the part of the action which happened in Croatia, but they've received a negative answer. Their spokesperson, Julia Huhnhold, told Hina that the State Attorney's office will decide tomorrow if any additional details about this police action will be made public or not.
They have revealed, however, that over 127 kilograms of explosives and numerous materials for the preparation of the explosive devices, as well as over 30 kilograms of materials for the synthesis of the synthetic drugs were seized during the raids.
