Croatian regional league clubs have joined their rivals in Croatian A1 League, in the derby of round one; Cibona won against Zadar
The home season has resumed, and the beginning of the league brought some exciting matches. We bring you the review of round one on April 6, 2016. The quality gap between the ABA League participants and the rest of the clubs is evident, but there is always room for surprises, as Zagreb and Split have high ambitions for the season.
Cedevita has trashed Kvarner with a forty-seven point difference, making their ambitions to defend last year’s title very clear. Cibona and Zadar played the classic Croatian basketball derby and Cibona won with a comfortable margin. Gorica won against Šibenik in a match between two clubs with little hope for a high place on the table.
Zagreb and Split have played the most entertaining match of the round, as Zagreb was in a twenty-one point lead at the beginning of the second half, but Split has turned things around and got to the four-point lead with less than a minute on the clock. They even had the ball in their hand, but with few terrible mistakes have spilled their advantage and lost the game in last two possessions.
Here are the results of the round one:
Cedevita – Kvarner 107-60
Zagreb – Split 75-72
Gorica – Šibenik 99-91
Cibona – Zadar 76-65
