Medveščak Hockey Club Joins the Fight Against Breast Cancer

By 26 October 2015

A hockey benefit match in Croatia to raise money to fight breast cancer.

After the great success of the last year's project with the aim of promoting awareness, prevention and education about breast cancer, Medveščak Hockey Club will on Friday, 30 October, during the game against Russian hockey club Lada, once again play in pink jerseys sponsored by Podravka, which were presented yesterday at an event in the centre of Zagreb, reports Poslovni.hr on October 26, 2015.

"Breast cancer is so prevalent in the world today that it has an impact on everybody. I think it is still a sensitive issue and initiatives carried out by Medveščak Hockey Club are a great way to increase awareness and work on prevention. As athletes, we like to be involved in projects like this, talk about it and make our contribution", player Patrick Björkstrand said wearing a pink jersey.

Podravka, Medveščak and "Everything for Her" association joined forces once again to highlight the importance of regular check-ups and prevention. "October is the month of the fight against breast cancer and for the last seven years the association has been organizing various campaigns and initiatives. It should be noted that October is not the only month when we should take care of ourselves and raise awareness about breast cancer. Health is something that should be in the centre of our attention throughout the year. Our campaign began in early October with a strong support by Podravka, and it will end with the hockey game next Friday, 30 October. This is the second year of our cooperation with Medveščak Hockey Club, which gives additional promotion to our entire campaign. We want to reduce morbidity and mortality from breast cancer", president of the association Almenka Balenović said.

In addition to the pink jerseys in which the players took pictures and spent time with the fans, the players sold and signed special tickets printed with pink ink. All proceeds from ticket sales are going to the "Everything for Her" association, and every woman who bought a ticket also received a voucher for a free oncology exam.

We invite everyone to come to the match of 30 October and get involved in this humanitarian project. At the same time, you can still support the Podravka initiative #SveZaMojeZlato by sharing the video on Podravka's website. Over 7,000 people have already done just that.
