Diego Maradona in Zagreb for Davis Cup, Meets with HNS

Diego Maradona, who is in Zagreb for Davis Cup, has met with with representatives of the Croatian Football Federation (HNS) on Friday at the DoubleTree hotel.

On the occasion of the Davis Cup Finals between Croatia and Argentina, football legend Diego Maradona has arrived in the Croatian capital. In doing so, Maradona has met with the delegation of the Croatian Football Association including coach Ante Čačić, executive director Damir Vrbanović, and senior advisor to the president, Zorislav Srebrić, announces HNS.

 

Coach Čačić gifted Maradona with a Croatian national team jersey printed with the name Davor Šuker, the HNS president and top scorer in the history of the national team, as well as fellow player of the Argentinean at Spanish Sevilla.

With apologies from president Šuker who could not be in Zagreb due to a business trip, Čačić said: "I would especially like to thank Maradona for the kind words of the Croatian national team during the European Championship in France."

 

The Argentinean gladly recalled the time spent in Andalusia playing with Šuker and said: "A big hello, I love him as much today as when we played together in Seville".

 

Executive Director Vrbanović gifted Maradona a picture from a friendly match played between Croatia and Argentina in 1994 which was held at Maksimir stadium in Zagreb.

 

Maradona’s career began at Argentinos Juniors and Boca Juniors, and upon his arrival in Europe he played for Barcelona, ​​Napoli and Sevilla. When he returned to Argentina, he wore the colors of Newell's Old Boys and Boca Juniors. With the national team, Maradona won the title of world champion in 1986, and his many brilliant moves on the field have often given him the title as one of the best players of all time.
