Argentina Defeats Croatia to Clinch Davis Cup in Thriller Last Day

Croats can be disappointed for falling short of gaining this title for the second time in history, but they must stay proud of reaching the finals

Argentina has won the Davis Cup competition! In the third day of the finals they reversed the score and for the first time in history won this competition, after losing four times in the finals, Večernji List reported on November 27, 2016.

After the first two days Croatia was in the lead 2-1 after Marin Čilić won in singles on the first day and again in doubles with Dodig the following day, and it was up to him again on the third day to grab the last point.

Although off to a great start against Juan Martin Del Potro, leading 2:0 in sets, in the end the Argentinean celebrated with 6:7, 2:6, 7:5, 6:4, 6:3.

It wasn’t over yet, all hopes went to Ivo Karlović, who unfortunately stood no chance against Delbonis. Before this match Karlović was better 3:1 in past duels, but today the Argentinean was better with 6:3, 6:4, 6:2.

Argentinean fans roared throughout the match, celebrating this trophy well into the night. Croats can be disappointed for falling short of gaining this title for the second time in history, but they must stay proud of reaching the finals.
