Football Legend Defends Slaven Bilić

By 11 January 2017

Remember Steve McManaman? Former Liverpool and Real Madrid player is today a co-commentator for BT Sport and commented on the situation of Slaven Bilić in West Ham

After 20 rounds the Hammerheads are 13th in the Premier League, with three defeats in a row by Leicester, Manchester United and especially painful, a home loss of 0:5 to Manchester City in the FA Cup, Jutarnji List reported on January 11, 2017.

“You simply cannot lost 5:0 at home, not West Ham in front of their own supporters. I hope Bilić keeps his job. Last season everyone talked of how good the players played, and now they are playing quite badly, so Bilić is not necessarily to blame, right? His job is to motivate players who don’t necessarily have to love their managers, but once on the field it’s about personal pride. When facing Manchester City in the FA Cup you don’t need special motivation. You’ve got 50.000 fans and no need for a manager to motivate you. You want to show you’re better than the 50 million pounds Raheem Sterling or Sergio Aguero. You want to prove yourself, you want to fight. No, I am concerned their problem has nothing to do with Slaven Bilić, at all. It can’t be that people agree at one moment that Dimitri Payet is the best player in the world and in the next that he’s horrible,” concluded McManaman.

English media write Bilić has two games to save his job, matches versus Crystal Palace and Middlesborough where he is expected to win.

West Ham’s owners David Sullivan and David Gold are supposedly fearing Bilić has lost the ability to motivate the team and are no longer certain he is the right choice for the club.
