Vekić and Konjuh on to Second Round of Australian Open, Ćorić Out

Croatian tennis player Donna Vekić moved on to the second round of the Australian Open after defeating on Tuesday with 7-5, 6-3 Aussie Lizette Cabrera

In a match that lasted an hour and 24 minutes, the Croatian player won 66 percent of points on her first service, made six breaks and lost her service three times. Vekić won a total of 78 points, while Cabrera won 63, Jutarnji List reported on January 17, 2017.

This was their second duel, Cabrera ranked 192 and Vekić ranked 99 on Monday’s WTA list. In their previous duel last year in Australia, Vekić was also the winner.

Vekić has a tough job in the second round against Dane Caroline Wozniacki, ranked 20. This will be their second duel, with the Dane better in the first.

The best Croatian female tennis player Ana Konjuh also made it to the second round after defeating with 6-4, 6-2 French Kristina Mladenović. Ana will play in the second round the better between Australian Darija Gavrilova and British Naomi Brady.

Mirjana Lučić-Baroni also moved on to the second round, outplaying Chinese Qiang Wang with 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in just under two hours of play.

On the other hand, in men’s competition Borna Ćorić was defeated by Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov with 6:3, 6:4, 3:6, 7:6.
