An unexpected loss for Čilić who only has himself to blame

The premier Croatian tennis player Marin Čilić has ended his competition at the Australian Open after a second round loss to Brit Daniel Evans with 6-3, 5-7, 3-6, 3-6 after nearly three hours of play, Jutarnji List reported on January 18, 2017.

Seeded seventh at the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, the Croat easily won the first set, but began to make errors in the second and Evans took the initiative.

Although Čilić made 14 aces in the match and Evans 5, the Croat made 69 unforced errors, lost his service six times while taking the opponent’s three times and won a total of 123 points, while the Brit won 130.

This was the first duel between Čilić, ranked seventh in the world and Evans who is ranked 51st.
