By 18 January 2017

Croatia beat Chile 37-22 and managed to rest some of the players

It was the match to secure one of the top two positions at the Group C table before the decisive game Vs. Germany. On January 18, 2017, Croatia faced Chile in Rouen and won in style.

Coach Babić decided to rest some of the more experienced players, so Duvnjak, Štrlek, and Horvat sat on the bench throughout the match. This was the occasion to see young players which should be the future stars of Croatian national team, and they showed they are up to the challenge.

Seven Croatian players under 25 years of age scored three or more goals tonight, Lovro Mihić, flamboyant winger scored eight, not missing a single shot, and consequently got the man of the match award.

As we pointed out before the start of this tournament, the primary goal for the team is the European Championship which will be staged in Croatia next year. With this in mind, it is evident that this experience will mean a lot to three debutants in the team, as well as to those who did not have important roles in the past.

Croatia will play the German team on Friday, and the winner will take the top position of the group table.
