Alongside Lučić-Baroni there are two more Croatian tennis players among the best 100
The sensational path of Mirjana Lučić-Baroni to the semi-finals of the Australian Open brought her a jump of 50 positions and placement as the 29th best tennis player in the world on the WTA scale. This is the first time in her career that she is among the best 30, while the list is lead again by American Serena Williams, who defeated the Croatian player in the semi-finals and won the first Grand Slam title in 2017, Jutarnji List wrote on January 30, 2017.
Alongside Lučić-Baroni there are two more Croatian tennis players among the best 100: Ana Konjuh fell three positions and is not the 39th, while Donna Vekić went up 11 positions and is now 88th.
Serena Williams’ 23rd Grand Slam trophy brought her back to the lead position on the WTA scale, held by German Angelique Kerber since last year’s US Open. This is Serena’s 310th week at number 1 and is lagging behind record-holder Steffi Graf by 67 weeks.
