Croatia to Play Friendly Match Against Mexico at Los Angeles Coliseum

By 1 March 2017

The Croatian Football Federation (HNS) has reached an agreement for a friendly match between the Croatian national team and Mexico in May of this year.

The Croatian national football team and many Croats in North America await a true football spectacle this spring. On May 27, 2017, Croatia will play a friendly match against Mexico in Los Angeles at the legendary Memorial Coliseum. The match will be played at 16:30 local time, reports HNS on February 28, 2017.

This will be a historic match for Croatia, as it will be their first time in North America after having performed in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and South America.

Croatia and Mexico are ranked 16th and 17th on the official FIFA rankings. The two teams have met four times, and after two victories for Croatia in friendly matches during the nineties, Mexico claimed two wins at the World Championships - 2002 in Japan (1:0) and 2014 in Brazil (3:1).

As part of their annual tour of the United States, Mexico will play a match against the Republic of Ireland in New York on June 1, 2017. The Mexican national team has played in Los Angeles many times, with the last match held at the Memorial Coliseum in March 2015 against Ecuador to a crowd of 88,000 spectators.

Croatia and Mexico face new challenges this year in the qualifying round for the FIFA World Cup 2018. Croatia will play against Iceland on June 11, while Mexico awaits Honduras and the United States.
