Čilić Triumphs in only 45 Minutes to Enter Semi-finals in Istanbul

The premier Croatian tennis player Marin Čilić is through to the semi-finals of the ATP tournament in Istanbul after defeating Belgian Steve Darcis 6-1, 6-1

Čilić secured victory over the 49th ranked world player in only 45 minutes, losing only one game in each set, Jutarnji List reported on May 5, 2017.

In the first set he went up 3-0 with one break, with Darcis reducing the advantage to 3-1. Čilić lined up three more games for an easy 6-1. In the second set the situation was similar with one break more. The best Croatian player took away the service of the 33-year-old Belgian for 1-0, 4-1 and 6-1.

This was their second mutual duel and the second win by Čilić after outperforming the Belgian back in 2009 in the Indian Wells.

The second-seeded Čilić will play in the semi-finals against Argentinean Diego Schwartzman who was better in the quarterfinals than Serb Dušan Lajović with 7-5, 6-2.

Čilić has not played yet against the 24-year-old from Argentina, who is currently ranked 46th.
