Hajduk v Everton at Full Poljud Stadium, UEFA Penalties Determined After Thursday's Match

By 19 August 2017

Some rather relieving news from UEFA this morning for Hajduk fans.

Hajduk will not be penalized before Thursday’s second-leg Europa League match against Everton in Split, ensuring that 6 million HRK remain in the club’s pocket from ticket sales, reports Goal.hr on August 19, 2017.

UEFA has asked for an additional statement from the Split club for the disorder created by fans at Goodison Park in Liverpool, and Hajduk has been given until Wednesday to send their statement.

Since the rematch between Hajduk and Everton will take place at Poljud on Thursday, Hajduk has avoided one of the worst scenarios possible, which would be a penalty with no fans for the match against Everton.

Hajduk can breathe, at least for now.

The Disciplinary Commission of UEFA is in charge of the case, and they have initiated proceedings against Hajduk for throwing objects, crowd disturbances, field invasions by supporters, and acts of damages. You can read more about it here

Since the penalties won't be known until after the match, Hajduk has thus far avoided losing around 6 million HRK from ticket sales for this game. It is impossible to avoid punishment entirely, however, and in all likelihood, Poljud will be empty in the next European game, whether it be this season or at the beginning of the next.

Everton defeated Hajduk 2:0 at Goodison Park on Thursday. In the first half of the match, a quarrel between home and away fans caused the referee to call the match to a halt. In the section of Torcida, various items were thrown, and some fans found themselves on the pitch. Stewards and police were forced to intervene.

A full Poljud stadium is expected against Everton which will bring the club millions in income and at least somewhat mitigate the consequences of UEFA's decision.

More information as we have it.
