EuroBasket: Croatia Dominates, Defeats Czech Republic

By 7 September 2017

Croatian basketball players have dominated the group stage at EuroBasket.

The Croatian basketball team beat the Czech Republic 107:69 in the final round of Group C at EuroBasket this afternoon, reports Gol.hr on September 7, 2017.

Croatia's new victory was led by Bojan Bogdanović who scored 25 points and Dario Šarić who scored 18 points and achieved ten rebounds. Patrik Auda led the Czech Republic with 19 points.

With their defeats against Hungary, Romania, Montenegro and the Czech Republic, and their loss against Spain, Croatia took second place in Group C. With that said, Croatia will move to the round of 16 on Sunday in Istanbul to play against the third team from Group D. Croatia's opponent will be known after the match between Turkey and Latvia at 19:45.

Since Croatia knew they would end the group stage of the competition in second place after the fourth round, and that the Czech Republic would not advance from fifth place, Croatian coach Aleksandar Petrović started the match with Ukić, Krušlin, Ramljak, Bender and Buva. Petrović used ten players in advance, announcing he would rest Žorić and Tomas. The maximum time of 28 minutes was given to Filip Krušlin and Dragan Bender.

Regardless of the unsettling way the match began, the Croatian side led the Czechs from the start. Ivan Buva used his height advantage over his guard, and with five points he was the most deserving of Croatia's initial advantage of 8:0. After Šarić entered the game in the middle of the first quarter, Bogdanović came to the attack and shot from a distance, giving Croatia an 11 point advantage by the end of the first quarter (28:17).

While the Czechs broke the second quarter at 30:26, Bogdanović scored 14 points in 10 minutes, giving Croatia a 14 point advantage. In the third quarter, this difference was largely maintained by Simon, Krušlin, Ramljak, Bender and Buva, and in the last 10 minutes, Croatia continuously increased their gap until the final score had them up by 38 points.
