While Everton drew at home to Apollon Limassol last night in their Europa League group stage match, a memorable “first” was recorded for Croatia’s own Nikola Vlašić.
Nikola Vlašić has scored his first goal for Everton!
While the result was not particularly one to be proud of for the English side, one thing we Croats can applaud today is the first ever Everton goal for 19-year-old Croat and former Hajduk footballer Nikola Vlašić.
In the second group stage match of the Europa League championships, Everton was down 0:1 after former Hajduk footballer Anton Maglica assisted Sardinero’s goal for Appolon in the 13th minute. Wayne Rooney equalized for Everton not long after in the 21st minute, and the game remained 1:1 at the half.
The second half is when we would say “the magic happened”, well, at least for fans of Croatian footballers and Everton supporters.

After Everton coach Ronald Koeman substituted in Nikola Vlašić for Idrissa Gueye at the half, in the 66th minute, the Croat broke past the Apollon defense to secure his first goal in a blue shirt! The game was now 2:1.
Everton did not score again, but Apollon did, leaving the two teams to draw 2:2.
Everton is at the bottom of Group E with only one point from their two matches.
