Croatian Football Coach Ante Čačić Fired after Poor Draw with Finland

By 7 October 2017

Goodbye, Ante Čačić?

As Index reports on the 7th of October, 2017, according to unofficial information, Ante Čačić has been removed from his position. The Football Association, where the ones at the top outnumber the football team itself, will have to face some shock therapy ahead of the last qualifying match for the World Cup in Russia.

Croatia drew in a key match against Finland at Rujevica (1:1) last night, compromising the Croatian team's admittance to the World Cup. Even if they draw in Kiev against Ukraine on Monday, this doesn't guarantee the team's placement in Russia.

HNS is looking for a man to raise a broken team. Last night a crisis meeting was held in which it was agreed that Čačić must leave so that Croatia could at least have some chance of placement for the 2018 World Cup.

After what happened yesterday at Rujevica, Čačić was unable to explain why Croatia's team, worth more than 300 million euros, played the way it did. When faced with questions about the game plan he set up, he seemed equally as unsure as to what he was talking about. To be precise - Čačić didn't seem to really know just who we were playing against, instead of keeping his mind on Finland, he was analysing Iceland all the time.

The man who will lead the team in the last qualifying match remains unknown as yet.

Today's training at Rujevica, which will begin at 11:00, should be conducted by Josip Simunić and Ante Miše, Čačić's ex assistants.
