As Zadar celebrates being voted Best European Destination 2016 on February 11, 2016, interest in the popular Dalmatian destination is bound to increase. TCN's Sarah-Jane Begonja looks at an upcoming event for a rather unusual sport called Škraping.
Škraping is a truly unique international trekking race held each year in March on the Island of Pasman in the Zadar Region and this year looks like it will be bigger and better.
Strap on your comfortable sneakers, pack your day bag and get ready to join the other competitors in a race along the sharp rocky edges of Pasman Island. This extreme sport is held every year in March - this year you can join the fun on Saturday, March 5th. Sign up for one of three categories: Ultra-trail approximately 47 km, Challenger around 25 km, and for the *cough-cough* not-so-fit among us you can sign up to the Light-Jogging category which is just 12 km.
Pronounced sh-krap-ing, the event consists of jumping, walking, orienteering and adventure. Maps are handed to each participant and you are required to navigate your way through checkpoints - with the goal of making it through the course as quick as possible.
The event is organized by the Municipality and the Tourist Board Tkon, which also organises the Island’s food fair Croatian Island Products, the largest fair of its kind in Croatia. The fair aims to develop island's production, preservation of originality of local goods.
This year's event will take place on March 5. For more information, click here, and check out the video below for an overview of this unusual sport.
