By 24 February 2016

Great success for Dinamo youth squad.

Youth squad of Dinamo Zagreb defeated Anderlecht 2:0 and qualified for the quarterfinals of the UEFA Youth League where they will meet Barcelona. Dinamo played a great game and defeated Anderlecht thanks to goals scored by Amer Gojak and Josip Brekalo. The quarterfinal match against Barcelona will be played in Zagreb on 8 or 9 March, reports Index.hr on February 24, 2016.

The game was very open and the teams had a total of 24 goal attempts. The hosts had their best opportunity in the second minute of the game when Jorn Vancamp hit a crossbar after a corner. Dinamo took the lead after 47 minutes, following a corner kick by Brekalo. Benković passed the ball to Gojak who scored easily from close range. Ten minutes later, Brekalo extended Dinamo's lead. Dinamo then successfully kept the ball in their possession until the end of the match, preventing Belgians from taking advantage of their rare chances.

It was a great success for Dinamo, unthinkable for its senior squad despite all the hundreds of millions of kuna spend on its players. Dinamo will play in the quarterfinals against Barcelona, which defeated Midtjylland from Denmark 3:1. The Danes were leading at halftime 1:0, but Barcelona equalized in the 51st minute. At the very end of the match, when everybody was expecting penalty kicks, Barcelona scored two goals in injury time and qualified for the match against Dinamo.

The remaining four games of the round of 16 are scheduled for Wednesday: PSV Eindhoven – Roma, Pribram – Benfica, Lyon – Ajax and PSG – Middlesbrough.
