Two Croatian Skiers Among Top 25 Best in Slalom at Winter Olympics

By 22 February 2018

Two young Croatian Slalom skiers are satisfied with their performance at the 2018 Winter Olympics: “We are really young for skiing.”

Istok Rodeš and Elias Kolega entered into the top 25 at the Winter Olympics slalom, reports Gol.hr on February 22, 2018.

"I know how good I am and I have shown it in training, but I did not show it in races this season," said former junior world champion in slalom 22-year old Istok Rodeš after finishing 21st in this discipline at his Olympic Games debut.

"This is a good road to what is waiting for us in four years, for the upcoming season in the World Cup and of course for Kranjska Gora,” added the skier from Varazdin, who was among the top 25 in this race along with 21-year-old Elias Kolega who ended in 23rd place during his second run.

"The second run was very solid. The first run I did a bit worse, and I made a couple of minor mistakes which cost me a lot of time. But the whole season was good for skiing slalom, and I do not want to be too self-critical now. I hope no one will put too much blame on the poorer ride,” said Kolega, who trained with Ante Kostelić this season.

"We must always find something positive in this. We are really young for the skiing sport, and we are achieving such results. I hope that we will continue to grow in the future, certainly to the next Olympic Games. But that is still far enough away. It is important that there is progress,” concluded Elias Kolega after his Olympic debut.
