Best Financial Season Yet for Hajduk: Over 100 Million Kuna in the Bank!

By 1 March 2018

With the sale of Franck Ohandza, Hajduk has passed a magical financial figure for the first time in 107 years.

Years of debt and teetering on the edge of bankruptcy are a thing of the past for Dalmatia’s favorite football club, Hajduk Split, reports Gol.hr on February 28, 2018.

When the financial report last year announced that Hajduk ended the 2016 calendar year with a profit of 20 million kuna, many welcomed the news with a mild dose of hesitation. We all remember when former Hajduk leaders spent money the club didn’t have once upon a time, resulting in multi-million dollar debts.

However, when it was recently announced that during the 2017 season Hajduk recorded a profit of 40 million kuna, it was a clear sign of total financial healing.

Strictly financially speaking, the 2017/2018 season will be the most successful in the 107 years of Hajduk’s history. With the sale of some of Hajduk’s top players this season, four players, in particular, managed to bring in a total of 13,850,000 euro.

Apart from the record sale of Nikola Vlašić to Everton for 10.8 million euro (plus 10 percent of the upcoming transfer), Ante Erceg went for a million euro, Franck Ohandza was sold for 1.2 million, and Brazilian defender Jefferson had the earliest departure at the beginning of last summer for 350,000 euro to Chaves in Portugal.

All in all, these transfers have brought the Split club around 103 million kuna in profit - a number that will be difficult to overcome.

Portuguese Sports Director Mario Branco, though criticisms have met him over the past year, is responsible for this growth in profit. If in the upcoming period Branco does not bring in a more than decent player without compensation (such can always be engaged, although the transition period has ended), Branco must start working on reinforcements for the summer transition period after which Hajduk must be of better quality than they are now.

Because the best results are expected of Hajduk’s first team, they should come as a result of the current financial situation. The responsibility of Mario Branco is even higher than it was before.
