Sensational Petra Martić Defeats Roland Garros Winner at Indian Wells Masters!

By 12 March 2018

Petra Martić and Marin Čilić convincedly celebrated in 3rd and 2nd rounds of Indian Wells.

Petra Martić has advanced to the round of 16 of the prestigious WTA tournament in Indian Wells, who many also call the fifth Grand Slam of the season, reports Gol.hr on March 12, 2018.

Martić successfully broke her negative streak against players in the top 10, and after six consecutive defeats, Martić entered her first win against top 10 players after nearly six years. The Croatian tennis player celebrated against the winner of last year's Roland Garros, Jelena Ostapaneko, with a score of 6:3, 6:3.

Martić managed to control the aggressive Latvian’s play from the first point, attacking every single ball from her half. After returning some heavy balls, Ostapenko cracked and made mistakes. Martić’s backhand slice shot punished the young Latvian, who did not show her best in that play and ultimately the game.

Martić will play in the round of 16 against the young Czech tennis player, 18-year-old Markéta Vondroušová, who was better than Aryna Sabalenka with a score of 6:2, 6:2. Martić has already played against Vondroušová at the start of the year in Australia and celebrated with a 7:6, 6:3 win.

Croatia’s best tennis player Marin Čilić won the round of 64 at Indian Wells with a convincing victory over Marko Martic Fucsovic (7:5, 6:3). Cilić’s showed only 45 percent on his first service and won 72 percent of the points after the first and second service.

Čilić saved both breaks and defeated the Hungarian in one hour and 39 minutes of play. Cilić will play in the round of 32 against Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber.
