It's Official: Niko Kovač WILL Coach Bayern Munich Next Season!

By 13 April 2018

Bayern Munich confirmed the news on the official website of the club!

Niko Kovač will succeed Jupp Heynckes at Bayern, the German club announced on its official website, reports Goal.hr on April 13, 2018.

The German club arranged a three-year contract with the former Croatia national team coach, which runs from 1 July to 30 June 2021. With Kovač, Bayern will also receive brother Robert Kovač as an assistant coach.

"We are happy because we managed to bring in Niko Kovač as the new coach," said the sports director of Bayern, Hasan Salihamidžić, before adding:

“Niko played at Bayern and knows the character, structure, and DNA of the club very well. We are confident that he is the right choice for Bayern's future.”

Kovač played in a Bayern jersey from 2001 to 2003 in 34 Bundesliga games in which he scored three goals. Along with his brother Robert, he won the Intercontinental Cup in 2001 and Bundesliga two years later with the Bavarian club.

Kovač will collaborate with some of the world's biggest stars at Bayern, though we are still unsure if Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery will remain at the club. Salihamidžić confirmed that the two were offered a new contract.

"We have spoken with Arjen and Franck over the last few days and have given them a bid for new, one-year contracts. We are waiting for their decision," Salihamidžić said, who then commented on the Champions League draw and that Bayern would face Real Madrid.

“The top opponent awaits us. Real is not just Cristiano Ronaldo, and they have a lot of top players. Last year we were thrown out before the finals, and now we want to go a step further, we want to be better. We want the finals at all costs. I'm optimistic. We respect Real, but we are not scared. We will do everything to go to Kiev.”
