Greatest Croatian Football Spectacle Awaits: Poljud Completely Sold Out Ahead of Eternal Derby

By 21 April 2018

The Eternal Derby between Hajduk and Dinamo will be played on Sunday at a sold-out Poljud.

On Sunday at 17:00, a real football spectacle is expected in Split. The morning before the derby between Hajduk and Dinamo, the Split club officially announced that tickets are no longer available. Over 30,000 tickets were sold, and the only tickets remaining are for guest supporters, reports Gol.hr on April 21, 2018.

After a security assessment by the police, tickets may be sold in the section next to the guests, which is usually mostly empty to avoid the home, and away fans being too close to each other.

Earlier this week, Hajduk reduced the point advantage to Dinamo by five points. Last Wednesday at Poljud before 15,000 fans, Hajduk overcame Cibalia with a 4:0 victory, while Dinamo fell to Osijek at Maksimir. Hajduk could reduce the advantage to only two points with a potential win at Poljud tomorrow.

There are still six more rounds until the end of the championship. Though have a slightly better schedule, a defeat at Poljud could seriously shake their somewhat ‘secure’ chance at the title. After the derby at Poljud, Dinamo welcomes Rijeka at Maksimir.

In addition to the great interest in the upcoming derby, there is uncertainty surrounding Ivan Kos's position as the president of Hajduk. After Torcida publicly accused the Hajduk leader of "getting close" to referees by supposedly taking them to dinner and a concert, which contradicts Hajduk's fundamental principles, it is expected that the Supervisory Board could find an alternative solution before the match on Sunday. Kos, however, had significant merits in the club's consulship, which is one of the few in Croatia today that is in the positive.
