NK Rudeš is rather nostalgic before this weekend's meeting against Hajduk, and it's not hard to see why.
For Hajduk fans, it was the one game this season we didn’t want to remember - though as hard as we would try to forget, it would come back to haunt us.
It was the game that ultimately forced former Hajduk coach Joan Carrillo to step away as Hajduk’s leader. It was the game when Torcida could only negatively whistle their boys in white off the pitch and call for the resignation of Hajduk President Ivan Kos. It was the game when Hajduk led 2:0 and allowed three second-half goals by Rudeš to win it in the 89th minute 2:3. It was a total disaster.
But if you’re a Rudeš fan, this was arguably the happiest moment of the 2017/18 season.
Though the disaster at Poljud has come back to bite Hajduk more than a few times this season - and especially at times when the race with Dinamo came down to just a mere five points - it’s somewhat comforting to know that the debacle, almost exactly six months ago, can be looked at today with a little humor… though not necessarily from the side of Hajduk.
Since the two teams meet again this Sunday, and this time in Zagreb, NK Rudeš players have found a way to make light of the event in a silly video announcing the upcoming duel between the two clubs.
Though the Zagreb club’s safety in the Croatian First League is anything but secure, the video which features a song titled ‘The Sea is Guilty’ is one way to relieve the pressure before the Croatian championships’ end.
