Mamić Responds to Croatian Prison Sentence from Medjugorje: "I'm Surprised, But I Feel Good"

Mamić responds to the verdict from Medjugorje.

After the Osijek County Court sentenced him to six years and six months in prison, Zdravko Mamić addressed the public from Medjugorje this afternoon, reports 24 Sata and Index.hr on June 6, 2018.

Mamić et all were found guilty on all counts in the case of siphoning about 116 million kuna from the Dinamo club and defrauding the state budget of about 12.2 million kuna in unpaid taxes and surtaxes, reported Hina

Zdravko Mamić was hence sentenced to six and a half years. His brother Zoran was sentenced to four years and 11 months, while Pernar was sentenced to four years and two months, and Vrbanović sentenced to three years.

“It is normal that I came to Medjugorje to find peace and stability and to do everything as best I can. I have to say I feel very good, even more than good. I'm upset by the verdict, I'm surprised, but I feel good,” said Mamić after he was sentenced. "The verdict surprised me, but what makes me emotionally unhappy and sad is the explanation. I have to see what my answer will be. My answer will be a weapon not to shoot, but a civilized weapon, and it will be something that has not yet been seen in Croatia and BiH."

Mamić added:

"I could keep the monologue of why I think the verdict is legally unsustainable, monstrous, false... the reasoning of the verdict makes me angry, it is dangerous and you can expect anything. They copied absolutely everything USKOK required, from word to word and put it into the verdict. That's unbelievable. God help the people who made this verdict happen. God forgives them because they do not know what they are doing.

I guarantee that everyone who was a part of this process will pay the price for it, but I will not be silent. I lost the round, but I'll get the battle, that I am sure. This is my fight from my other homeland and God knows why he sent me here. I'm here on the assignment he has for me, he has a clear plan and I will follow it. From here I will fight and I do not think I will go back to Croatia before a final verdict is pronounced. I will use all the possible rights to prove my innocence.”

When asked if he was afraid to be in Bosnia and Herzegovina considering this is the country he was shot, Mamić responded:

“I’m more afraid of what happened today in the courtroom. I have no choice but to be in BiH; I know people here love me, and I've felt it here thousands of times.”

Does Mamić fear that BiH will extradite him to Croatia?

“I do not have all the answers and I do not know what the law prescribes, but it is an unlawful verdict. I am almost confident that BiH will not make such a move. I have always said that I do not feel safe in Croatia and want to be tried in BiH.”

And will Mamić stay in Medjugorje or move on?

“If I tell you where I'm staying, it's as if I've put a target on my forehead. I will certainly be staying in BiH.”

More to come...
