How Much Will Croatia and Players Earn from World Cup?

By 13 July 2018

FIFA awards the World Cup winner with $38 million, but there is also a reward given by the Government of the Republic of Croatia, equal to all Olympic sports.

No one seems to be counting how much money they have in their bank accounts at a time like this, and the country’s economy is the only one seeing any profit - and believe it or not, football fever has tripled the population’s consumption compared to the usual monthly amount, reports Goal.hr on July 13, 2018.

However, there are also indications that after the football fever subsides, the Croatia national team will be responsible for the arrival of thousands of tourists to Croatia, which is proof of just how much the sport helps the country.

There are also many World Cup awards, of which, we doubt our heroes in Russia have on their minds at the moment. But since we’re already on the topic, exactly how much money can this Croatian fairytale accumulate?

What is FIFA’s World Cup prize pool?

Fifa introduced awards the World Cup participants in 1982. At that time, the prize pool amounted to $20 million, which was shared by all participants.

Since then, it has risen from competition to competition, and in Russia, it has reached a record $791 million!

Each of the Federations in the competition collects $9 million (not counting the cost of camps, accommodation...), then even more for each step they advance in the tournament. HNS thus entered the semi-final game with $36 million.

The World Cup finalist will receive another $28 million, and the champion $38 million.

How much will the footballers receive?

Croatian footballers do not receive any special prizes, beyond the distribution of what they earn from the Federation. According to past practice, this money was shared 50:50, one time 55:45, while now it is 60:40 percent in favor of the Federation, while 40 percent of the 80 percent goes to the players and 20 percent to staff.

So, if Croatia becomes the World Champion, FIFA will redirect $74 million to the Croatian Football Federation.

A rough calculation, as the proportion of how much money players will receive relate to how much they played, should be around $1 million per player.

How much will the clubs earn from the World Cup?

FIFA also has a fund for clubs, who are without their players participating at the World Cup. This fund grows every competition, and in Russia, it is worth $209 million.

According to FIFA’s account, clubs receive $8530 per day per player, no matter how much they did. The number of days in Russia is counted plus the two weeks of preparations before the World Cup. The Croatian National League was represented in Russia by three players.

Dinamo will receive some $418,000 for Livaković, and for Mario Gavranović who was eliminated with Switzerland in the round of 16, $290,000. Dinamo alone will receive more than $700,000.

Rijeka will earn $418,000 from Filip Bradarić.

How much will the players make from the country?

Essentially, all medals are rewarded at the Olympic Games, World Championships, and European Championships.

As football is in the category of Olympic sports, according to the current rulebook, each player would receive 120,000 kuna for the gold, and coach Zlatko Dalić would receive 100,000 kuna. For the silver, each player would receive 70,000 kuna, and 60,000 kuna for coach Zlatko Dalić.

FIFA Ranking

Although FIFA will only announce the ranking after the World Cup, as the scoring method is known, we can say that Croatia is the third best national team in the world.

And if they win the final over France, they could be second, which would be their best placement in history!
