The discus queen does it again!

Sandra Perković, the 'Discus Queen' and the world’s best female discus thrower, has advanced to the final of the European Championship with ease after throwing 64.54-meters in the first qualifying series, which has exceeded the qualification standard by more than six meters. The second Croatian representative, 18-year-old Marija Tolj, finished qualifying in 16th place with a throw of 55.52 meters, reports HRT on August 9, 2018.

“I do not want to think about history and winning another title. It's always nice to qualify on the first attempt and I think the competition will be great. I'm do not love these qualifications in which the norm is far below my standard, and I do not want it to look like I'm doing it without worth. On TV it always looks like this,” Sandra Perković said, who will have the opportunity to become the first person in history to win five consecutive gold medals in the European Championships. Perković has yet to win second place.

In addition to Croatia’s four-time European Champion, two-time World Champion and Olympic winner, six more discus throwers were able qualify for the final: Germany’s Shanice Craft (61.13 m), Nadine Mueller (60.64 m) and Claudine Vita (59.18 m), Portugal’s Irina Rodrigues (59.22 m), Moldova’s Alexandra Emilianov (58.83 m) and Italy’s Daisy Osakue (58.73 m).
