It was a good day in Toronto for Croatian tennis players.
Croatia’s best singles tennis player Marin Čilić has advanced to the quarter-final of the Masters 1000 series ATP tournament in Toronto by defeating Argentinian player Diego Schwartzman 6-3, 6-2 after an hour and 11 minutes of play, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on August 10, 2018.
This was the third match between Čilić and Schwartzman and the second win for Čilić.
Čilić played particularly well on the return and even managed to steal Schwartzman’s service five times - twice in the first and three times in the second set.
Čilić led the first set 3-1, though Schwartzman managed to return for 3-3. The draw didn’t last long, however, and was followed by a big series for Marin Čilić who won seven games in a row and reached the unbeatable advantage of 6-3, 4-0.
In the quarterfinal, Čilić will play against Spaniard Rafael Nadal who defeated Switzerland's Stan Wawrinka in the round of 16.
