Luka Modric is among the top 3 players selected in UEFA’s player of the year award! The best player of the World Cup in Russia is inching closer to yet another incredible recognition in the year of his greatest football success, reports Goal.hr on August 20, 2018.
The three finalists for the award are Modrić, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah. The players were decided by 80 coaches who participated in the Champions League or Europa League, and 55 journalists, one from every UEFA member state. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.
While Modrić, Ronaldo, and Salah received the most votes, the players to follow were:

• 6. Kylian Mbappe 43
• 7. Kevin de Bruyne 28
• 8. Raphael Varane 23
• 9. Eden Hazard 15
• 10. Sergio Ramos 12
The winners will be announced at the UEFA ceremony in Monaco on August 30, when the best players of the season will be awarded, as well as the team of the Champions League, and the best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, and striker.
In 2017, Modrić was named the best midfielder of the Champions League, has been named part of UEFA’s team of the year twice, and has been named on the best Champions League squad four times.
In the past four years, Ronaldo has won UEFA’s player of the year award three times and Lionel Messi once. The previous conquerors are Andres Iniesta (2011/12) and Franck Ribery (2012/13).
