Behind Borna Ćorić is the most successful week in his professional career. Even though he lost the Masters 1000 series tournament final in Shanghai against Novak Djoković on Sunday, he’s achieved his highest ATP ranking, making Croatia the only country with two tennis players in the world’s Top 15.
In the latest ATP ranking released on Monday, Spain's Rafael Nadal retains his position as the No. 1 player int he world with 7660 points. Immediately behind him is Novak Djokovic, who, after winning the Shanghai title against Borna Ćorić, has thus jumped ahead of Switzerland’s Roger Federer. The legendary Swiss player, who was also just eliminated by Borna Ćorić in the Shanghai semi-final, is now the No. 3 tennis player in the world with 6260 points, reports T.portal on October 15, 2018.
In fourth place is Argentinian player Juan Martin Del Potro, in fifth is German tennis hopeful Alex Zverev, while the world No. 6 is none other than Croatia’s best tennis player Marin Čilić, who’s collected 4185 points. Zverev has thus missed out on collecting a hefty 840 points, while Del Porto, who retired from the Shanghai Masters due to an injury, failed to collect 1675 points.
But most importantly, Croatia is the only country with two representatives in the top 15 tennis players in the world. Borna Ćorić achieved brilliant results at the Shanghai Masters to be the 13th best tennis player in the world on Monday. He has thus earned 2415 points and achieved his best career ranking.
This is excellent news for Croatian tennis, and we can only hope that our top players stay in form as we await the Davis Cup final against France on November 23 and 24, 2018.
