Zagreb will become the center of the international ballet and music scene at the beginning of next year, or more precisely on February 16, 2019.
The Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall will welcome the return of the successful, world-renowned choreographer Edward Clug’s show - Radio & Juliet - three years after the first and sold out performance to the Zagreb audience, reports Sound Report on November 21, 2018.
Radio & Juliet presents a perfect symbiosis of Romeo and Juliet's story, chivalrous choreographic ideas and the songs of the cult rock band Radiohead, in addition to the minimalist scenery in the form of lighting and video installations.
The role of Romeo is played by one of the best ballet dancers - Denis Matvienko, the champion of the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg. The ballet star’s art is best described by the legendary Natalia Makarova:
“This is Baryshnikov, Nureyev and Godunov in one person. The ballet hasn't seen such a phenomenon for a long time.”
This ballet, using the theme of the most famous romantic duo, takes place in modern times and follows the story from Juliet's perspective. Wherever the ballet is performed, it is regularly sold out.
As already mentioned, the musical theme of the play exclusively presents the songs of one of the world’s biggest bands. Radiohead has not accidentally found themselves in the story and the very name of the ballet spectacle. The tragic atmosphere and sensitivity of their songs, which happened to also be Clug's favorite band, was often associated with the story of Romeo and Juliet. Clug developed this contemporary choreography with a musical background using 11 songs by Radiohead.
The combination of the modern times, ballet and Radiohead might be unusual, but judging by the reaction of the audience after the last performance in front of a full Lisinski, this masterpiece will leave everything, as well as many spectators around the world, breathless.
The ballet rock show’s return to Zagreb will delight all lovers of dance and art, as well as fans of Radiohead, and especially those who, just a few years ago, were unable to attend due to the great interest in the event.
On February 16, 2019, Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall will be a symbol of love and top performance art. Tickets for the ballet and rock spectacle are on sale and from 145 to 299 kuna. Tickets can be purchased at ulaznice.hr.
