Dinamo Zagreb has been crowned the Croatian champion for the 2018/19 season.
In the 30th round of the Croatian First League in Koprivnica, Dinamo Zagreb defeated Slaven Belupo 1-0 (0-0) and clinched the Croatian championship title. Dinamo has thus won the title six rounds before the end of the season and 23 points ahead of Rijeka in second, reports Jutarnji List on April 19, 2019.
This is the 20th Croatian championship title for Dinamo Zagreb and the Jubilee 30th in the history of the club. This is also Dinamo's 12th title in the last 13 years.
While the first half of the game between Slaven Belupo and Dinamo saw pretty poor football, with Dinamo superstar Bruno Petković missing the best opportunity thanks to a save by goalkeeper Filipović, the second half proved more exciting.
Namely, Amer Gojak managed to score off Petković's assist, which was the only goal of the game. In the 54th minute, Olmo hit the post, though Dinamo was able to keep the minimum to win.
Dinamo's new title was celebrated without their beloved fans, as the Bad Blue Boys did not travel to Koprivnica to protest that the game was played on Good Friday.
Dinamo won the Croatian championship with 79 points, ahead of Rijeka in second place with 56 points, while Slaven Belupo remains in eighth place with 26 points.
This title adds another achievement to Dinamo’s great season where they made it to the Europa League round of 16. Dinamo also has good chances of winning the Croatian Cup.
Coach Nenad Bjelica brought all 27 players to Koprivnica who, more or less, contributed to winning the championship title.
“Congratulations to all the players, the entire professional staff, everyone who works in Dinamo and who created this team. Congratulations to the supporters and everyone who loves Dinamo. And to everyone who invested one percent of their efforts - congratulations,” said Bjelica after the game.
In the dressing room, the players celebrated the 20th Croatian championship. You can see the videos below.
